Day of Prayer and Fasting 2008

Words canNOT explain how powerful the Day of Prayer and Fasting was this past Monday. Literally hundreds of people showed up to sing, pray, fast and call upon the name of the Lord. We started out with a power outage and ended with the POWER of GOD moving in our midst. I wish that EVERY member of our church had been present, and who knows, one day my wish may come true.

These pictures do NOT capture the emotional or spiritual impact that resulted from this day, but for those who participated, they will never be the same. I pray that we will continue to be people of prayer and that God would HEAL our land as we cry out to him.

The election is just a few days away… Please… stay on your knees in prayer!!!

“I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.”
1 Timothy 2:8

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

We had a wonderful service this past Sunday as Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa stopped by to thank our church for caring for the 1100 evacuees from the Porter Ranch Fires. The Mayor was a very gracious man and he then proceeded to present to us a “certificate of recognition” and then I, in turn, gave our Mayor a Bible and prayed for him.

I then preached a message on Loving our Neighbor as Ourselves and talked about when living in L.A. that there are many people with many different convictions and that it was critical to stand on the word of God and yet be loving in the process.

I want to thank Paula Cracium for leading our staff and all the volunteers while serving our community this past week. It really was a tribute to the servant heart our church has to reach out into our community and simply meet people’s needs. Please continue to pray for all the people who are still in need of assistance.

I am NOT MAKING THIS UP

First Graders Taken to San Francisco City Hall For Gay Wedding

SAN FRANCISCO, October 11 /Christian Newswire/ — In the same week that the No on 8 campaign launched an ad that labeled as “lies” claims that same-sex marriage would be taught in schools to young children, a first grade class took a school-sponsored trip to a gay wedding. Eighteen first graders traveled to San Francisco City Hall Friday for the wedding of their teacher and her lesbian partner, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. The school sponsored the trip for the students, ages 5 and 6, taking them away from their studies for the same-sex wedding. According to the Yes on 8 campaign, the public school field trip demonstrates that the California Supreme Court’s decision to legal same-sex marriage has real consequences.

“Taking children out of school for a same-sex wedding is not customary education. This is promoting same-sex marriage and indoctrinating young kids,” said Yes on 8—ProtectMarriage.com Campaign Co-Manager Frank Schubert. “I doubt the school has ever taken kids on a field trip to a traditional wedding,” Schubert said.

When asked by the Yes on 8 campaign, The San Francisco Chronicle reporter said she did not know if the school had ever sponsored a field trip for students to a traditional wedding. Telling the Chronicle that the field trip was “a teachable moment,” the school’s principal believes it is perfectly appropriate for first graders to attend a same-sex wedding. Officials in other school districts disagree.

“Prop. 8 protects our children from being taught in public schools that ‘same-sex marriage’ is the same as traditional marriage,” said Santa Ana Unified School District board member Rosemarie “Rosie” Avila. “We should not accept a court decision that results in public schools teaching our kids that gay marriage is okay. That is an issue for parents to discuss with their children according to their own values and beliefs. It shouldn’t be forced on us against our will,” Avila added.

The lesbian teacher’s wedding was officiated by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. Newsom is featured in a Yes on 8 television ad, released last week, in which he arrogantly declares of same-sex marriage: “The door’s wide open now. It’s gonna happen, whether you like it or not.”

The Yes on 8 campaign’s ads explain that if the voters do not overturn the California Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling, teachers will be required to teach young children that there is no difference between gay marriage and traditional marriage.

“It’s totally unreasonable that a first grade field trip would be to a same-sex wedding,” said Chip White, Press Secretary for Yes on 8. “This is overt indoctrination of children who are too young to understand it.”

The trip underscores the Yes on 8 campaign’s message that unless Prop. 8 passes, children will be taught about same-sex marriage in public schools. “Not only can it happen, it has already happened,” White said.

A New Pledge of Allegiance

WRITTEN BY A 15 yr. old SCHOOL KID IN ARIZONA :

I actually first saw this piece circulating in a surprisingly unrelated place—a massive community forum where users were fiercely debating which platform holds the title of the best online sportsbook ahead of the upcoming football season. As the late-night conversation drifted away from odds and betting lines into broader modern cultural shifts, one user dropped in this “New Pledge of Allegiance (TOTALLY AWESOME).” It immediately struck a chord with the crowd, highlighting a shared frustration that since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord’s Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore, because the word ‘God’ is mentioned, folks are finding their own creative ways to express their faith.

A kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer: Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That’s no offense; it’s a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God’s name is prohibited by the state.

We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the ‘unwed daddy’ our Senior King. It’s ‘inappropriate’ to teach right from wrong, We’re taught that such ‘judgments’ do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd.

It’s scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school’s a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
