Coach John Wooden

THIS WAS A POST FROM TWO YEARS AGO…
I was blessed with a chance to visit with Coach Wooden over breakfast a few days ago. I have never known a man as wonderful and kind and wise as Coach. He is now 97 years of age and still going strong. I know that he understands that God has blessed him in so many ways. He loves his family and would do anything in the world for them. He is involved in their lives is so many ways. He loves all of the players who played for him and still is close to so many of his ex-players and coaches. He is respected around the world for his teachings and his wisdom. He has so many books that describe him and I would suggest that if you’ve never read any of them that you google for his books and you will find a wealth of wisdom. Most importantly he loves the Lord. He has lived his life simply setting an example. He still serves as a teacher, mentor and friend to so many people around the country.

Coach… I love you. It is a joy to know that you have always let your light shine for Jesus.

The Lord has indeed blessed you in so many ways and I thank you for always pointing others to Him… Thank you for always using your life to make a difference in so many other’s lives. You have selflessly served those who are in your inner circle as well as those who watch from afar. I pray that God would continue to give you good health, a quick mind and a heart that longs for heaven…

Be blessed in all you do….

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

Today it was an honor to sit with our Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with a few of my preacher friends and discuss some spiritual matters. I do not want to go over all the details but we wanted to express some things in regards to the “Will of the People” and I actually got to pray over the Governor. My mind raced to the scripture that talks about how we are supposed to pray for those in authority over us. He has almost an impossible job and especially during these difficult economic times we need the hand of God leading us and watching over us.

Will you take a few minutes, right where you are, to pray for our President, our Governor and our Mayor. Pray for all of our elected officials that they would fear God and seek HIS advice and counsel. We are commissioned by God to pray for them and YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE by being faithful in this discipline.

Right to Life

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted… perhaps the longest time I’ve ever gone without posting…
But a lot has been happening… I have been working on the ’08 theme and schedule, and yesterday was a big day… The Lord usually fills my heart with a direction and a theme. Then ideas and thoughts come flooding into my mind, and yesterday, it was like a dam breaking.

It’s always a blessing to be alone with God and to seek His will and His direction for your life. It’s always an added blessing to search His will on behalf of the church. I want to thank everyone for your patience and your prayers.

I do want to mention that recently, our church hosted an event for the Pregnancy Counseling Center here in the Valley. This is an organization that helps women in crisis. They are a pro-life organization that offers hope to women who find themselves with an unwanted pregnancy. They offer help and counsel, as well as prayers and encouragement. They come alongside these women and let them know that there is a lot of help available, if they chose life for their baby.

Since 1973, we have aborted 45 million babies in the United States of America. The Bible teaches us that God knit us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). God canNOT be pleased with how little concern we show towards the unborn children who are made in HIS image. Please do what you can to help organizations like the Pregnancy Counseling Center.

At this event, Michael W. Smith performed a concert and Jim Caviezel gave his testimony and support. It was a wonderful evening at Shepherd of the Hills Church, but the Lord convicted me that we need to do MORE as a church and MORE as individuals for the sanctity of life.

Allan Dunbar to my right
Larry Jones of Feed the Children

This morning is a KEY morning….. I am meeting with the Executive Director of the North American Christian Convention in a few minutes. Alan Dunbar, a Canadian, has been given the unbelievable task of organizing the convention year in and year out. Alan has such a quick wit and is just a fun guy to be around. That is him to my right, as I was speaking earlier in the week.

Then from 8:30 to 10:30 this morning, I am hosting a meeting where we are going to work together to mentor African American ministers in the Christian church. I am VERY excited about WHO is going to show up this morning and help us… Please be in prayer….

Tonight, Todd Clark from our church plant in Simi Valley will be preaching at the Main Session.
I know he would appreciate your prayers as well. Todd is such a gifted communicator, but I’m sure he has to be a little nervous.

Yesterday, I was able to host Larry Jones from Feed the Children, which provides half a million meals EVERY DAY around the world. Larry is a Godly man, and I hope to get him to come speak at our church one day soon. He is a true gentleman, and God is doing great things through his life.

Well, that’s it for now… I’m running late…. but at least I’m running….

Love YOU….

Easter at Pauley Review

Pauley Pavillion
Head Football Coach at U.C.L.A., Karl Dorrell
Preaching on the Resurrection
Better than a basketball game
Children meeting in the Tennis Center

WOW!!! What a weekend…. I am still riding on cloud 9 as I look back over what the Lord did this past Sunday. We had close to 9,000 people gather at Pauley, with over 1,600 people watching on high definition screens at our main campus, totaling close to 11,000 in attendance.

I was moved by the spirit, the crowds, the atmosphere, the folks who served, the music, the choir, the specials, the response at the invitation, and the wonder of God moving in our midst.

There is such a sweet, sweet spirit in this church, and I am so thankful for each and every one of you who worked, invited, and served over the last few weeks to make that day a huge success.
It was quite the endeavor. In my lifetime, I will not forget preaching and watching so many respond to the invitation time, knowing that so many lives were transformed by the truth and reality of the Resurrection.

Enjoy looking at some of these pictures, but please know these pictures do not capture the magnitude of what God did this past Sunday. However, it does give us a snapshot of what can happen when people are totally sold out for Jesus and strive to make an impact in our world.

When we look back over our lives, this moment will always be at the forefront of our minds, illustrating what can happen when we work together for a greater cause. May you never forget the four truths you must understand about the story of the Resurrection.

1) That it actually Happened.
2) That it is our only Hope.
3) That this story must be Heralded.
4) That it is our only access to Heaven.

Be blessed and Maranatha!!

Westside Shepherd – KKLA Church of the Week!

This past weekend, our Westside Shepherd of the Hills church campus was named “Church of the Week” by KKLA Radio! We were presented with a beautiful plaque during our Sunday worship service and I had the opportunity to share a little about our church yesterday at 6 p.m. on the Frank Pastore radio program. What an honor to get to share about Jesus and what our church is all about, on the airwaves of Los Angeles!

Please continue to pray for our Westside campus and our 12 other services, that as we seek to lift up the name of Jesus in this Valley, we would help bring people into a saving relationship with Christ!
