Does Tim Tebow Walk on Water?

So I am in a spinning class at the LA Fitness in Universal City when I get called out of class by a lady who says there is a phone call for me. She said that it wasn’t an emergency, but it was important. Whew, well at least I knew no one died and ran downstairs to take the call. It was one of my assistants, Shalena, who says, “Fred Roggin of NBC Sports wants to interview you about Tim Tebow.

She then explained I had to be back at the church by 8:00 PM, where they would tape the segment. I raced home, changed my clothes, and got back to the church promptly at 8:00 PM. I did NOT know the questions he would ask, but I did have an idea about the direction of the interview.

I had NO idea what the final question would be and was surprised when Fred Roggin asked the following question. He asked me, “If New England and Denver were playing a football game in a river…” Right there, I was thinking, “WHAT?!?!?! In a RIVER?!?!?!” He continued, “If they were playing in a river, WOULD TIM TEBOW WALK ON WATER?”

10 Reasons to ROOT for Dallas over Miami!!!

Today in our Pastors meeting I asked how many are pulling for the Dallas Mavericks and all but 2 were rooting for the Mavs. Last night, when I should have been sleeping, I was thinking WHY do I want the Mavs to win. Not to change any one’s mind but simply to tell you why I do NOT want Miami to win. Enjoy.

1) Being a Lakers fan, you always want a team from the West to beat the Team from the East.

2) LeBron celebrates too early. He hasn’t won YET! If he wins, let him cheer all he wants. His celebrating in front of Dallas’ bench was classless. If you had ever played basketball, this is a NO-NO.

For what it’s worth. I think LeBron is one of the greatest athletes in the WORLD. He is an amazing talent. That is NOT the issue. It’s the extreme celebrating before the season even started and it’s something I never saw in Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird or Michael Jordan. Yes I saw Magic Johnson celebrate. But it was a JOYOUS celebration of sheer happiness. Not the type of stuff we see going on today.

3) My son’s name is Dallas. ENOUGH SAID.

4) Some of my favorite Pastors are from the Dallas area. This may not be important to you, but hey, it’s my blog. Chris Seidman, Rick Atchley, T.D. Jakes, Caleb Kaltenbach, Drew Sherman, Barry Cameron, Jack Graham and Ed Young Jr.

5) Reason number 5 is “DIRK”

6) The head Coach of Dallas is losing his hair. I LOVE THAT!!!!

7) Blue is my favorite color. (Besides Purple and Gold)

8) Mark Cuban is finally being quiet.

9) The Cowboys have been so bad for so long, it’s nice for that city to have something to cheer about.

10) Dallas has better BBQ than Miami.

Do I think Dallas will win? I don’t know. I have always been a fan of Dwayne Wade. I don’t think Miami should ever lose a game with all that talent. But I am pulling for Dallas and know that win or lose they will do it with class.

Based on a true story…

In a supermarket, Kurtis the stock boy, was busily working when a new voice came over the loud speaker asking for a carry out at register 4. Kurtis was almost finished, and wanted to get some fresh air, and decided to answer the call. As he approached the check-out stand a distant smile caught his eye, the new check-out girl was beautiful. She was an older woman (maybe 26, and he was only 22) and he fell in love. Later that day, after his shift was over, he waited by the punch clock to find out her name. She came into the break room, smiled softly at him, took her card and punched out, then left. He looked at her card, BRENDA. He walked out only to see her start walking up the road. The next day, he waited outside as she left the supermarket, and offered her a ride home. He looked harmless enough, and she accepted. When he dropped her off, he asked if maybe he could see her again, outside of work. She simply said it wasn’t possible. He pressed and she explained she had two children and she couldn’t afford a baby-sitter, so he offered to pay for the baby-sitter. Reluctantly, she accepted his offer for a date for the following Saturday. That Saturday night, he arrived at her door only to have her tell him that she was unable to go with him. The baby-sitter had called and canceled. To which Kurtis simply said, “Well, let’s take the kids with us.” She tried to explain that taking the children was not an option, but again not taking no for an answer, he pressed. Finally Brenda brought him inside to meet her children. She had an older daughter who was just as cute as a bug, Kurtis thought, then Brenda brought out her son, who was in a wheelchair. He was born a paraplegic with Down Syndrome. Kurtis asked Brenda, “I still don’t understand why the kids can’t come with us?” Brenda was amazed. Most men would run away from a woman with two kids, especially if one had disabilities – just like her first husband and father of her children had done. Kurtis was not ordinary — he had a different mindset. That evening Kurtis and Brenda loaded up the kids, went to dinner and the movies. When her son needed anything Kurtis would take care of him. When he needed to use the restroom, he picked him up out of his wheelchair, took him and brought him back. The kids loved Kurtis. At the end of the evening, Brenda knew this was the man she was going to marry and spend the rest of her life with. A year later, they were married and Kurtis adopted both of her children. Since then, they have added two more kids. So what happened to Kurtis the stock boy at a grocery store in Cedar Falls/Waterloo, IA and Brenda the check-out girl? Well, Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Warner now live in Arizona , where he is currently employed as the quarterback of the National Football League Arizona Cardinals and has his Cardinals on their way to the Super Bowl. Is this a surprise ending or could you have guessed that he was not an ordinary person? It should be noted that he also quarterbacked the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. He has also been the NFL’s Most Valuable Player twice and the Super Bowl’s Most Valuable Player.

Kerri and the gang…

It is one of the great joys of my life to have coached my two older children and now I am coaching my youngest… Kerri Brett Rutherford. She is number…. ahhhhhhh I will let you guess….. lol

The name of our team is the BRUINS!!!! God worked that one out… and to my knowledge all of these girls are Christians and one of them was actually baptized in the ocean last week.

Kerri is a reflection of her moma… the same spirit and demeanor.. I’m not sure she really likes basketball… I think she plays because she knows I like to coach.. hahahaha but she is a great girl who seems to bless all who come in contact with her.

I am a blessed man to have a daughter like her and to have so many of her close friends who serve and worship the Lord each week. Through in an occasional basketball game from time to time… what else could you ask for???????

Thank you Jesus!!!!

Girls Rule again!!!!

Here is a picture of the team that I am coaching. Can you tell which one is my daughter???

Back Row: L to R Bretiel, Jessi, Kerri, Kendall, Taylor
Front Row: L to R Caroline, Jordan, Sierra

These girls have worked so hard and they are a total joy to be around. They love to laugh and they play as a team. If you have a chance, come see us play sometime.

Hillcrest Eagles

Last night, I went to watch the Hillcrest Christian Varsity Boys and Girls teams play basketball against Santa Clarita Christian, and the Hillcrest Eagles looked good in both games. Both games were highly competitive and great sportsmanship ruled the night.

The girls won 44 – 30 and were led by Jackie Habashy with 18 points.
Other scorers included Leila Meimandi with 13 points, Espinoza with 5 points, Veloz with 6 points, and Wagner with 2 points.

The boys won 61 -52 and were led by “Big Country” Nick Huber’s game high 20 points, along with Billy Corcoran’s 11 points. Billy is a long time friend of my son, Dallas, and he did a good job running the point. Other scorers included Michael Dacey with 10 points, Fattal with 9 points, Cullen with 8 points, and Garcia with 3 points.

You can go to the Hillcrest Christian School link in the right hand column and find the game schedule, if you’d like to come watch a game sometime.

These student athletes are some of the best children in the valley.

Don’t forget that Sunday, January 21, at 2:00 PM will be Shepherd of the Hills day at Cal State University, Northridge . Blake Ewing will be singing the National Anthem, and I will be the honorary coach. With the purchase of any regular priced ticket, your Shepherd of the Hills bulletin will get you a second ticket for free.

At halftime, I will be coaching my 9 and 10 year old girls basketball team. It will be a lot of fun.

See you this weekend. Church is going to be GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!
