Paul writing to the Philippians

Philippians 1:9-11

“And this is my prayer:
This is my prayer for all of you as well…

that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,
This says to me that love, true love, biblical love, is more than just an emotional response; that love is sitting down and going through a process of reasoning and attempting to gain knowledge, insight, and wisdom. This insight is what enables us to make right decisions. It allows us to think about the details of our circumstances, see how God is truly working in and through our situation, and then come to conclusions that will bring honor and glory to God. That is why the rest of the prayer goes like this…

so that you may be able to discern what is best
There is always a huge difference between what is good and what is best. There are always things that are good, but they are not necessarily the best for us. For example, ice cream is good, chocolate sundaes are REALLY GOOD, but I’m not sure that these are the best things for us. Likewise, many choices we make may be good choices, but they just might not be the best choices.

and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ — to the glory and praise of God.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh you know this is the end result, that in and through our love for the Lord, we will gain wisdom and insight to know HOW to make wise decisions that will ultimately lead us to live lives of RIGHTEOUSNESS. Righteousness and living pure and blameless lives are what bring GLORY and PRAISE to God. As we embark on the beginning of a new year, may each of us, in love, have discernment and wisdom in making choices and decisions that will result in the fruit of righteousness.

Romancing Royalty 2007

I totally understand that MOST of you read through Romancing Royalty during 2006, but for those of you who didn’t, I want to encourage you to read through it during 2007. This book contains 365 powerful devotions that will draw the reader closer to King Jesus. With over 100 guest authors, this is one of the best devotional books you can find. I am convinced that this tool will help you in your spiritual development. For those of you who completed it during 2006, why don’t you post your comments on what it meant for your spiritual journey? And again, for those of you who did NOT read through it, it’s not too late to begin. We are still in the first week of 2007. Every devotion has a text, a story, a prayer, three study questions, and a place to journal. Why not start off the year on the right path? This book can be purchased at the Praises bookstore or at the website, www.callonjesus.com

Favorite Christmas Card

Every year on Christmas day, after the children have unwrapped their gifts, I settle down for a couple of hours and read through all the Christmas cards, notes, and greetings that friends and people from the church have sent me. I always enjoy reading the cards and personal notes that are written by so many of you. I look at every card and read every note.

One of the things I enjoy is trying to figure out which cards are my favorites. I had several this year, but my very favorite came from the Manocchio family who sent a picture of their two daughters, Gabriela, age 11, and Julia, age 8.

Look at this picture! Besides being adorable, it is full of meaning, as 2006 was the year of “prayer”. This family wanted to send a message to all of their friends and family that their home had become a “house of prayer.”

So thank you Jon and Niurka (dad and mom) as well as Gabriela and Julia for sending out what I thought was my favorite Christmas card of 2006. You truly blessed me as well as everyone else who received this card.

The words on the card were as follows….. Praying that the Spirit of Christmas and the hope it brings, will be in your heart during this season and the whole year round. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given… and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

USC wins????????????????????????????

I have a lot to talk about, but I’ll save that for later in the week.

Today, I must at least give my regards to USC, who won the Rose Bowl game against Michigan. I guess that means that UCLA is better than Michigan, since the Bruins beat USC just a few weeks ago. (Don’t you just LOVE my logic?)

Congrats to the Trojans!!!

I think I’m going to forget to mention that UCLA and Oklahoma both lost their bowl games, so please don’t remind me, Ok??? I just don’t like to focus on the past… haehehahahaehaheaha

Happy and Holy New Year

I just want to wish each of you a blessed and Happy New Year. I know 2006 will always be known as the year of Prayer and we certainly have been blessed of God. But I truly believe that for some of you 2007 will be the year where Jesus becomes the Lord of EVERYTHING in your life. It will be the year where God gets a hold of your heart, your life, your family and your future. May each of you know that I am faithfully praying for you and please join us this coming weekend as I will be introducing the new theme for 2007.

Again… Happy New Year!!!

Looking back over 2006

It’s been a remarkable year at Shepherd of the Hills Church.

Where do I begin?

First and foremost our theme for the year…HOUSE OF PRAYER.

I look back over all the sermons, the Pillars of Prayer, the Church having daily devotions going through the book… “Romancing Royalty”, and who could NOT put at the top of their list the “Day of Prayer” where over 1000 people gathered at the church and spent the entire day in worship and prayer. Truly an amazing day that I will never forget and in my opinion the greatest day of my Christian Life.

And a close second would be the Beach Baptisms where over 200 people were baptized into Christ. There is a video we showed regarding the beach baptisms on October 30th, 2006. (Just go to that date on our blog and you can view the video.)

Next would be our two new Church plants, Chris Stevens at “Come as you are Church” and our grand opening of our Westside Campus. http://www.mywestsidechurch.com/

And I was told tonight that during 2006, we’ve had 654 Baptisms, which is another banner year for us. Looking back we have had a remarkable year and I just want to thank the LORD GOD for His blessing and I want to thank EACH of YOU for your willingness to be used of God.

One of the pictures above are of the four pillars that are standing tall in the foyer of our church and the other picture was a creation and gift of my dear friend Bob Hastings. Bob works for Salem Communications, does some sales work for KKLA and his wife is the Administrative Assistant for Lloyd Ogilvie. Bob took this picture at our “Beach Baptism” day and then super imposed the “Declaration of Satan” that we used in a sermon recently. Mr. Hastings is always trying to encourage me in one way or another and this picture actually sent chills up my spine.

Bob, Thank You for your gift that will always help remind me of what an incredible year we’ve had here at Shepherd. Every year I say the same thing that I’m about to say right now. “I can’t imagine how next year can be as good as this past year has been.” And yet EVERY YEAR Gods blessings go BEYOND my imaginations.

Looking forward to sharing with you the Plans for 2007 on the weekend of the 7th.
