Loving those who serve!

Week after week, at Shepherd of the Hills Church, we hand out over 5 to 6000 bulletins. Someone has to stuff them with the inserts and sermon outlines every week. Most people come to church and grab a bulletin not knowing of the tremendous amount of work needed to provide such bulletins.

Today I was upstairs studying for the sermon this weekend. We are actually starting a new series called “God Has An App For That” based on my new book. So after studying I walked down the hallway to look at the 33 beautiful people that had volunteered their time without fanfare. I had to take their picture and show it to you.
They were a well organized machine working without interruption until I showed up, of course.
Please take a moment and the thank the Lord for all those who serve and volunteer their time in churches across America. And then ask the Lord where he would have you to serve.
If they kept track of the number of bulletins stuffed each week in churches around the world, I’m sure it would outnumber the billions of hamburgers served around the world at McDonald’s. Do you agree?

The Fires Continue to Rage

As you may know, we are blessed at Shepherd of the Hills to serve as an American Red Cross evacuation center for the residents and victims in the surrounding area of the San Fernando Valley. Thanks to the donation of numerous local businesses, several thousand meals were served at our church to more than 1,000 individuals who checked in to our facilities throughout the varying stages of evacuation. We want to thank all of the local businesses who donated food: Wal-Mart, Del Taco, Bakers Square, El Torito, Panda Express, Outback Steakhouse, Abe’s Deli, Jerry’s Deli, and Brent’s Deli, Subway, Chipotle, Rubio’s and Pepsi, to name just a few. Donations and efforts continue even as this post is written, so we thank those in advance who continue to give.

The sheer scope of financial generosity has extended far beyond our immediate valley. After setting up a digital disaster relief portal on our church website, the global online response was instantaneous. We received major monetary gifts from prominent e-commerce platforms, decentralized finance networks, and bitcoin sports betting sites, all of whom mobilized their international communities to route emergency funds directly to our shelter. It is truly humbling to see how a crisis can unite such vastly different corners of the corporate world for a single, life-saving cause.

In addition, hundreds of men, women, and children are volunteering their time to serve at the evacuation center. Literally within moments of this disaster, the church mobilized along with the American Red Cross in setting up the shelter. More than 500 volunteers from the Shepherd of the Hills Church are serving alongside the American Red Cross to provide whatever comforts of home they can to the evacuees. In addition to basic needs, such as food and shelter, other amenities were provided including video games and Disney movies for children, WiFi (businessenergyuk.com took responsibility for this) and computer access, accommodations for pets, and cell phone charging stations provided by Sprint.

Many city officials have stopped by to see how the relief efforts are progressing here at Shepherd. Mayor Antonio Villariagosa visited with volunteers and evacuees for about two hours today, and returned for a press conference at 5:15 PM. Many local news reporters have also covered evacuation efforts at the church. A common observation made by these reporters and visitors was the organization of the evacuation center at the church. One American Red Cross employee, who has worked with disaster relief efforts for five years, commented that he had never seen any organization as organized as Shepherd of the Hills Church with regards to emergency relief efforts. Certain individuals have asked me if the church had been prepared for such an event. My honest response is, no, we weren’t prepared, but it only took a few minutes for people to come out of the woodwork and get organized.

The Herculean relief effort at the church reminds me that, if you put your trust in God, and you have the collective effort of a church, coupled with the community and the American Red Cross, we can get through anything. When the faith community and local businesses work together, we can accomplish anything. Together, we have proved this potential in the last two days.

Let’s continue to keep our brave firefighters in our prayers, as they battle the flames for two straight days, and pray that the winds would subside, allowing the firefighters to gain an upper hand in containing the fires.

Yesterday and today, the staff at Shepherd of the Hills Church stepped up in a MAJOR way as our church was set up as a Red Cross Evacuation Centers for the Porter Ranch fires. We have had hundreds of volunteers that have worked around the clock to help people who have been evacuated from their homes. The FIREFIGHTERS were AMAZING and have saved so many homes, and the community in Porter Ranch has risen to the occasion. I am so proud of our Church, our staff, our volunteers, and our city. Thank you to ALL who are serving Jesus by serving others.

I HATE showing you this picture.. but many people have asked me to post a picture of our event for our volunteer banquet. We acted out the game show “Deal or NO Deal” and I was selected to play the part of game show host Howie Mandel… All the pastors dressed up with their cute bow ties and numbered cases as we proceded to give $1.00 away to unlucky Margo Ugalde and of course $1,000,000.00 dollars to quite and shy Lori Padilla.

For all who were present it was a fun evening where we were able to show our appreciation to all of our volunteers.

Our church is so blessed with people who eagerly and frequently step up to the plate to serve and lend a hand at a moments notice.

I want to thank EACH of you for using your gift to honor the Lord and I only hope that you fully understand how appreciative we are of YOU.

In love,

Dudley

NEW SERMON BINDERS!

You may or may not know this, but for the past 12 months, I have had a new executive assistant named Angie Merrill and an administrative assistant by the name of Carla Keefrider. Both of these ladies have helped my life in so many areas. They are responsible for organizing the many tasks and responsibilities that come my way daily. One of the areas that they have organized is the CallOnJesus.com ministry. Thus, we have a new website design, new products available, and soon, we will offer DVD copies of our sermons.

The latest idea that Angie and Carla have come up with is to provide a binder that holds all your sermon notes. Each week when you come to church and take notes, you can now go home and place your notes in your binder. All of the sermon notes have been three hole punched beforehand for easy organization into these new binders. We are planning to have the cover artwork for the binders coincide with the theme each year. This is a wonderful way to keep track of your sermon notes throughout the years.

These binders are available for $6.00 each at the CallOnJesus.com Counter and Praises Book Store in both a men’s version and a women’s version. I also want to thank Roxanne Smith, Kari Macer, Bill Bayne, Lori Bird, Mike Millet, Dru Morgan, Jerry Miner, Amy Barnes, Alex Radilaleh, and Sharon Canchola, who have been instrumental in doing a lot of the behind the scenes work for CallOnJesus.com

This ministry continues to grow, and I know that God has BIG plans for this ministry to reach a lot of people for Jesus. I want to thank all the volunteers who graciously man the CallOnJesus.com Counter week after week. We couldn’t carry on without the volunteers. 🙂

WHO WILL WIN?

Once a year we host an event for all of our Shepherd Volunteers. It is our intention to thank all the men and women who graciously serve in ministry areas here at the Shepherd. Tonight is the annual banquet that the staff puts together to simpy say “Thank You”. We as a church could not function without the army of willing volunteers who give of their time and talent to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and His bride. As in past years, we as a staff, try to “entertain the troops” so to speak, and this year is no exception. Tonight promises to be one of the funniest nights of the year. If you are a volunteer, we’ll plan on seeing you at the Porter Ranch Campus tonight around 6:30 pm. Be prepared to LAUGH.
